OpenLaszlo Platform Roadmap
Last update: May 1, 2011
Welcome to the OpenLaszlo roadmap! This document describes the short-term strategy, and the long-term vision, for the OpenLaszlo open source platform.
This document, like OpenLaszlo.org itself, is a work in progress. Project plans and design ideas currently appear on the OpenLaszlo Wiki. For now, here is a high-level view of where we are headed.
Keep in mind that the OpenLaszlo roadmap is not a commitment to deadlines or feature sets. It reflects the plans of the platform team at a particular moment, and is subject to change without notice.
Platform Status
OpenLaszlo 4.9.0 is the currently released, stable branch that supports SWF8, SWF10, and DHTML development. OpenLaszlo 4.9.0 is a significant release containing over 160 bug fixes and implementing the infrastructure to support the new components. It also provides new features for creating and deploying mobile applications. See the OpenLaszlo release notes in JIRA for details.
Ongoing development will occur in the trunk branch. All current releases are from the trunk branch.
Applications developed prior to the inclusion of SWF9 support in OpenLaszlo are using the pagan-deities branch. This is a maintenance-only branch and is not recommended for application development.
All prior versions are available from our Archive page.

Next Major Release
OpenLaszlo 5 will be the next major release. The current goals are:
- Enhance the substrate to support styling using runtime CSS
- Take advantage of ES5, CSS3, HTML5 and Flash10
- Have drawview support scale(), rotate() and translate in all runtimes
- Support additional platform targets, such as mobile - see www.mobileopenlaszlo.org
- I18n and localization support, in particular support right-to-left script (bidi-text)
Over time, we see the platform changing to add support for new features. The voice of the community will make a difference as to which areas we pursue.
